Dani Peñaloza is a multimedia journalist currently living as a settler on Algonquin territory in Pembroke, Ontario. Before moving to Eastern Canada in 2021, she lived in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia on the unceded, ancestral lands of the Coast Salish. There, she completed her Bachelor of Journalism degree at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.

Currently, she works as a freelance journalist and a podcast producer for The Chemical Sensitivity Podcast, which explores environmental illness and the stigma attached to it.

Before and following her graduation in 2021, Dani worked as a reporter at the Delta Optimist, which is a community newspaper in Delta, British Columbia. There, she filled in for their editorial staff and reported on local news, politics, social issues and arts & culture. She built relationships with community figures, wrote many front-cover stories and several special sections about Pride and Indigenous excellence. Before then, she was her student newspaper's community reporter and copy editor.

Dani is a queer, mixed-race woman with Mexican ancestry on her father's side and Danish / English ancestry on her mother's side. She approaches journalism through a compassionate lens. Her perspectives and lived experiences inform her unique, compelling voice and passion for social justice and change.

If she's not sitting behind her keyboard, Dani can be found cooking something with double the amount of recommended garlic, listening to music too loudly or reading a good book.
